Classy Crostinis

This past Saturday, J. and I hosted our third annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Party! This party is my favorite to host and I always take this opportunity to try out new recipes. This year, I wanted to go with a lot of finger foods for ease of eating and decided to try out a couple crostini recipes. Through my digging I found about ten different ones I wanted to try but narrowed it down to my favorite two.

For both of these recipes, I sliced and toasted small loaves of french bread (the kind that is less than 2 inches in diameter) to keep it bite sized.  Larger french bread or even crackers or Melba toast could work well too.  You just want something well toasted or firm enough to stand up to the toppings you are using.

Caprese Crostini

  • French bread
  • Fresh mozzarella (cubed)
  • Tomatoes (sliced)
  • Basil
  • Balsamic glaze

I placed half a basil leaf on top of the crostini bread to keep it from getting soggy from the slice of tomato. I topped with a half slice of tomato, a cube of mozzarella cheese and topped with a drizzle of balsamic glaze.


Prosciutto Crostini

  • Prosciutto
  • Goat cheese
  • Honey
  • Pear (optional)

I spread the goat cheese on the bottom of the crostini and then topped with a slice of prosciutto. I drizzled with honey for a hint of sweetness. A slice of pear could also add a nice natural sweetness and freshness.

The greatest thing about crostini is that all you basically have to do is toast the bread and assemble! Easy and fast, but very classy and delicious! I can’t wait to try out more of these recipes at my next party, or maybe just as a snack for myself.
