I don’t have a huge sweet tooth. When I do get in the mood for dessert, I typically lean towards pie or cookies as opposed to cake or ice cream. Smallcakes Cupcakery, in Oldsmar, has changed my view of cake and cupcakes forever.
My first experience with Smallcakes was when J. brought me home a leftover cupcake from a work party – Red Velvet. Since then I’ve been occasionally surprised at home with other cupcakes (J. knows the way to my heart!) All of these cupcakes have been HUGE, and each one has had the softest, most moist cake I have ever tasted – like biting into a cloud. The icing, while firm and keeping shape, is creamy and rich. Really the perfect match. I’ve even kept one in the fridge overnight, and the taste is still amazing (no dry leftover cake here).
They serve certain flavors consistently, and then also have flavors of the day. I follow them on Facebook, and yesterday one of their flavors of the day was Kentucky Bourbon. I knew my life would not be complete without one.
The cake itself was made with bourbon, chocolate chips, and pecans. The frosting was a cream cheese base with brown sugar, topped with caramel, fudge, chocolate chips, and chopped pecans. I could definitely taste the bourbon in the cake but it was not overpowering. The rich brown sugar frosting was the perfect compliment to it. The pecans and chocolate chips added a nice crunch to every bite. It was so unique and delicious.
I definitely recommend checking out Smallcakes! Their sweet treats will curb that sweet tooth craving. Find one near your and make make sure to follow them on social media so you don’t miss out on their specialty flavors!
Until next time!
