If you couldn’t tell by now, I love BBQ. And what better to accompany that delicious pulled chicken (or pork, or brisket) than some baked beans. While typically I just buy the Publix deli pre-made kind, I was excited to try to make them myself for a friend’s Memorial Day grill out.
BBQ Baked Beans
- 2 cans cannellini beans (rinsed)
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (I used Rib Rack Original)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp chili flakes
- 4 strips of bacon (optional)
Preheat your oven to 400 F.
In an ovenproof skillet, add your onion and chili flakes and cook down until soft. Add in your beans, BBQ sauce, and brown sugar and stir to combine.
For the bacon, I chopped mine up and sprinkled on top of the dish to crisp up while baking. You can also leave it whole and just lay it over the top of the beans to get the bacon flavor in the sauce (and then discard bacon before serving). Or of course, you can just skip the bacon all together. Totally optional.
Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes or until the bacon is crispy.
I prefer sweeter baked beans, so I used a sweet BBQ sauce and added a bit of extra brown sugar. The flavoring is up to you though, so experiment to find your favorite way to make them!
Until next time!
